Welcome!

Thank you for joining us in an exploration of the culturally rich and sometimes enigmatic region known as Appalachia. This portion of our website was formerly a mini-online course for researchers that required registration. We have removed the registration requirement and hope that in addition to researchers, anyone wanting to learn more about Appalachia will utilize this service. It is our hope that you will finish this mini-course with a deeper understanding of Appalachia's regional culture, society, and history, and that this knowledge will improve your research or understanding of the region, while helping you avoid common oversights and missteps.

How to complete the course:
Check out the FAQ section. If you plan to conduct research in or about Appalachia click on Preliminary Questionnaire for Researchers and write down your responses to the questions. Then proceed to the Lessons link and read or watch the material. Reflect upon the questions asked in the lessons.  Write down your answers and track your progress.  That’s it!
