Appalachian Center Projects

Post office Project:
Because the proposed closing of post offices in Kentucky inordinately affects rural Appalachian areas, we will be engaged in a year-long participatory research project documenting the role of post offices in Appalachian communities. We invite K-12 teachers, librarians, historical societies, nursing homes, artists, college classes and others to collaborate with us on a theater production and documentary film that will circulate through Appalachian schools and libraries next year. If you are interested in contributing to that collective documentary project, please contact Shane Barton at shane.barton@uky.edu or 859-257-4852.

Appalachian Forum:
We have initiated an Appalachian Forum series in which community-based and university-based speakers will share information on ongoing work. We will announce these forums as details emerge.

Place Matters Lecture Series:
We will also host the second half of the Place Matters lecture series in the spring of 2012, leading to a volume published by the University Press of Kentucky. More information to come.

Fall 2012 International Conference, "Global Mountain Regions: Contributions and Challenges"
Next fall, we will be hosting an international conference called Global Mountain Regions: Contributions and Challenges

*If you have any questions about any of the projects, please contact Dr. Ann Kingsolver (ann.kingsolver@uky.edu) or Shane Barton (shane.barton@uky.edu).
