Graduate Appalachian Research Community (GARC)

About Us The UK Graduate Appalachian Research Community (GARC) is an official UK graduate student organization promoting interdisciplinary dialogue on Appalachian research. The group’s mission is to foster a supportive community in which students from various disciplines learn from each other’s findings, discuss research obstacles and successes, can have a venue to present their Appalachian‐based research, and collaborate. We sponsor a yearly Research Symposium and Arts Showcase for student researchers and artists that typically takes place in February. The symposium is open to students of all disciplines and all academic levels in KY. In addition to the symposium, the ARC may organize lectures of interest; film screenings; and outings. The ARC may also co-sponsor events with other organizations who share similar interests.
