Digitize Manipur: A Transnational Learning Community
DIGITIZEMANIPUR is a private initiative by an international consortium for the digital preservation and conservation of Manipur’s ancient and endangered Tibeto-Burman manuscripts which are predominantly in Old Manipuri and written in the Meitei Mayek script.
DigitizeManipur seeks to survey, examine and assess the manuscripts for their digital preservation, conservation and study. The long-term objective is to build an academic framework to facilitate study and research once the manuscripts have been digitized.
Conservation professionals from the University of Kentucky and the International Dunhuang Project made a research trip to Manipur in April 2008, with a grant from the Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation. The project is projected to start in September 2010.
