The Messy Politics of Clean Coal, Contested Energy Alternatives in the Appalachian Coalfields

This project examines Appalachia’s carbon problem, and specifically focuses on how “clean coal” technologies have been debated and contested in the region as a possible solution to this problem.

Coal Mining Impacts on Soil Carbon Storage and Impacts in Appalachian Headwater Streams: A Research Experience for Undergraduates

Through an integrated program of classroom, field, and laboratory experiences, REU participants will study biogeochemical cycles and their influence on ecosystem dynamics over time by examining carbon cycling and storage in soils and sediments in headwater watersheds.

Enhancing the Marketing Skills for East Kentucky Artisans
2011, Agriculture, Area Extension Field Programs, Economic Conditions, Economic Development, Economic Development, Women

The immediate measurable objective of this project will be to enhance the skills of 150 artisans in Eastern Kentucky in the area of entrepreneurship development. We anticipate reaching an additional 250 artisans within the next two years after the resource materials are developed.
